Hikari Takanashi (小鳥遊 ひかり, Takanashi Hikari) is a main character in Demi-chan wa Kataritai.
Appearance[]
Hikari has shoulder-length blonde hair that resembles bat ears with bangs swept to the right side and gold eyes.
Personality[]
A vampire by nature, Hikari requires blood to sustain her biological well-being. However, unlike common depiction of Vampires, she is a very active, cheerful and full-spirited girl who is more than capable of eating garlic.
She also refrains from biting others' necks (though she does have fantasies about doing so, but doesn't due to her unwavering kindness.) Instead, she takes sustenance from government-issued blood packets.
Since hunger is associated with sexual desire for vampires, she cannot drink the blood of boys, as this embarrasses her. For this reason, Hikari can sublimate the lack of a romantic experience with guys into increased desire to drink the blood of her friends, especially Yuki. It also leads to the fact that the forces of Satou don't excite her as a girl, but causes severe overeating and drunkenness.
Being a demi-human living with a normal human sister as well as human dominant society, she keeps a highly optimistic outlook of the future and a somewhat aloof image, often helping other demi-humans in gaining more confident perspective of themselves in dire times.
Ironically, she doesn't like bright lights all too much despite her name literally translating to Light. She never wishes to put her classmates in a darkened room just for her convience.
Quirky, cute, confident, kind, and caring, she can quickly become the center of attention but nevertheless puts others' well-being first in her own ways. She tends to wear clothes, accessories and other objects with bat motifs related to her status as a vampire.

Etymology[]
- If written, the name Hikari means "light" (光) in Japanese, which is a double play on words because not only do vampires suffer from light, but also because her personality is cheery, happy and bright.
- Hikari's surname Takanashi means "little bird, small bird" (小鳥) (taka) and "play" (遊) (nashi).

- Hikari likes liver and tomato juice.
- Hikari gets supplied with blood packs once a month.
- Hikari has no experience with love, but she has lots of knowledge.
- Hikari actually wears UV blocking tights when she wears skirts.
- Hikari NEEDS blood ingested on some occasions, otherwise her predatory instinct will eventually make her attack someone for blood.
